Josep Buforn

Pianist & Vocal Coach

Biography

Based in Barcelona, Josep Buforn is a pianist and vocal coach whose work spans song recitals, opera and chamber music. Over more than twenty-five years, he has performed at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, L’Auditori and the Peralada Festival. His recital collaborations include Josep Carreras, Piotr Beczała, Saioa Hernández, Pene Pati, Amina Edris, Josep Bros and Sara Blanch. His work brings together concert performance, operatic preparation and close collaboration with singers.

Josep studied with Maria Jesús Crespo at the Conservatori Superior Municipal de Barcelona, graduating with the Premio de Honor, before continuing his studies in London. He also received guidance from Peter Bithell, Luiz de Moura, Nina Drath and Nina Svetlanova. An experienced répétiteur, he has worked with the Orfeó Català and the Gran Teatre del Liceu Chorus, and has collaborated with the Tenor Viñas Competition. His work in opera has brought him into contact with conductors including Gustavo Dudamel, Daniel Oren, Marco Armiliato, Gianandrea Noseda, Josep Pons, John Adams and Kazushi Ono. Alongside his performing career, Josep works with advanced singing students at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona, sharing insights drawn from his work on the recital stage and in the opera house.
